1) At what age did you get into boxing and what made you want to compete?
I started boxing at the age of 10 after my dad took me to my local boxing club, I was not old enough to fight until my 11th birthday but I started to learn the ropes from 10. My Dad is responsible for my interest in boxing. He has always followed boxing but never competed himself. I was a very lively young lad with bags of energy so my dad thought that boxing would be a great outlet for me. At 11 I became a member of Eltham Amateur Boxing Club where I reached the final of the National Association Boxing Club.
2) What has been your toughest opponent to date?
As a professional I have competed in 7 fights all of which I have won. One professional bout was against Rocky Dean in December of 2006 who I am set to face again on the 26th May at Londons Excel. Im a natural Super Bantam Weight so I have had to train hard to fight at Bantam Weight. I would say that Rocky Dean has been my toughest opponent to date and in the past Rocky has challenged for four titles and so has much more experience than I do. Rocky is a good fighter who puts his all into his matches and is up for a challenge.
3) What is your greatest achievement in boxing to date?
So far my achievements include winning the ABA (Amateur Boxing Association) title twice. I also competed and won at flyweight, Bantam and Super Bantam weight. My greatest achievement would have to be winning the four nations as a Professional. Competing against other hopefuls from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Winning the Four Nations is something that no matter what I achieve in the future will stick in my mind. It was a fantastic feeling and something that I will never forget.
4) Can you describe the feeling each time you step into the ring?
Each and every time I step in the ring to compete I feel the same thing, Nerves! If you dont have nerves then there is something wrong. Every boxer feels nervous before a fight and this helps to concentrate on the task ahead and stay focused.
5) Where do you see your career progressing from here?
I hope to go all the way to the top. I have a long way to go but I feel confident that I can make it. I will have to progress slowly as that is the nature of the game but I see myself competing internationally in the future.
6) How has your sponsorship from Fish helped your career?
Fish have made a world of difference to my game. They allowed me to concentrate on my boxing and I can now focus on my future fights. Fish has really been great for me and has introduced me to the world of male grooming, something I had never experienced before my visit to their salon. My favourite product would have to be Fish Fingers. This is what they use when I have my hair done in the salon and now I cant leave for training without making sure I have my wraps, gloves, boots, shorts and Fish Fingers.
7) How are you preparing for your next fight?
I enjoy my training and it really helps me stay focused. I have watched videos of my opponents most recent matches to give me a better idea of what to expect but to be honest I am not paying much attention to these. I need to stay focused and not be put off by his previous matches and I am sure he will be the same.
